I have to remind myself that appearance isn’t a metric of the usefulness of something. I caught myself saying “wow, this looks bad” because a project wasn’t using more recent design practices. But when I began using it, it did the job well and quickly. In the age of marketing and ads, the whole “judging a book by its cover” is a tactic companies use to gain dominant mind share.
Keep that mind when you review people, software and everything in between.
